Are You Ready for the Next Nationwide General Strike?

No Kings 2.0 is a national day of peaceful action on Saturday, October 18. The coalition behind June’s massive No Kings Day says it is mobilizing again to reject creeping authoritarianism and remind the country that power originates from the people, not from a throne. Strikers unite.  Let’s flex our collective power and remind the leaders that the people are in charge.

Why is “No Kings” day important

No Kings is a pro-democracy show of force. It is a nationwide, non-violent day of action meant to assert that “America has no kings”. Clear principles of nonviolence and legality are central to the movement’s success, which organizers say broadens participation and enhances community safety.

The first “No Kings” day drew millions nationwide, with major-city turnouts.

October 18 is planned to be bigger and more widespread. It is supported by a large coalition at its core, including Indivisible, ACLU affiliates, the American Federation of Teachers, Public Citizen, SEIU locals, MoveOn, and many others that can mobilize across multiple cities simultaneously.

Specific rights-based grievances are highlighted for October: abuse of power, rapid deportations without due process, speech and political repression on campuses, and threats to free and fair elections. This is all Part of the larger General Strike movement

Recent federal actions, such as deployments and policing interventions, keep civil liberties concerns in the headlines, which organizers say increase the urgency for a visible, coordinated response. Ongoing national infrastructure makes it simple for local groups to organize city-level events and for attendees to register or RSVP.

October 18 is a peaceful show of civic spine. Millions stepped out on June 14. Organizers are asking us to step out again, together, with clarity and care. If you’re interested, please register, invite two friends, and arrive with a calm and purposeful mindset. No thrones. No violence. Only neighbors.  And come ready to dance. The dance of the day will be the Foxtrot Delta Tango.  I think you know the steps.
